CHAPTER THREE
Looking back now, I can only say that Chioma made me go through a lot. If you want to understand how far I woukd have gone without Chioma then it means that you are not getting the point. In fact, at some point, I had to go to Youtube and sing, ‘’If you want to kill me, kill me make I die.‘’
‘’Chioma, what have I done to you?‘’ This is one of the questions I usually ask myself when I remember what Chioma made me go through.
One day, I picked up my phone and called her parents' number and it was her mother that picked.
‘’Ehe, how did you get my phone number?‘’ was the question that came and I seized that opportunity to introduce myself as her daughter's best friend. She said that, ‘’It can't be.‘’ That her daughter had travelled overseas three months ago to continue on her journey to academic prowess which she (her mother)knew that she (Chioma, the girl in question)would make it. At once, my body temperature rose to 86 degree centigrate and my phone started vibrating and I switched it off and kept it near the window for it to receive cool breeze then I ran outside because the room where I was was becoming too hot for my liking.
I would have believed her if not that I had been with Chioma few weeks ago. So, I decided to go back and confront her since she doesn't have my current phone number and there was no way I could have contacted her.
When I got to Chioma's house the following day, as I had returned, I confronted her with the facts that I had and she said, ‘’
How could you be doing this to me?‘’
‘’What?‘’ I questioned.
She said let us eat first that after she would explain everything to me and that the reason why I didn't understand her was because I continued playing along without asking her consequential questions until that day.
So, after wehad eaten, we went outside to play. It was a meal of boiled potatoes chips and a whole lot of delicious tomatoes sauce with fish and meat inside. So, I forgot about the question until in the evening. When we came back, Chioma told me everything and I was flabbergasted. My temperature kept rising and I almost fainted but I had to keep myself on check by carrying out some internal exercises!
‘’Chioma, why didn't you tell me all these things all the while?‘’ I asked her, as if I would have done anything to help the situation if not coming around to check on her especially on Fridays when she would be preparing to travel to Onitsha.
I mean, Chioma was the kind of person that would pack fruits from Nsukka and go to sell in Onitsha and when you see her, you would mistake her for a slay queen. I guess she is because what she did to me, I don't know how manage but one day, I will explain. Chioma show me pepe!In fact, She made me to hear whim! If not for anything, for the fact that I was once told her that I love her, she now wants me to see shege!!
Yes!Chioma is all that hardworking but she can lie for Africa and she also had her way with packaging. She also told me that her father was a top politician in Nigeria who was betrayed by one of his allies but I am beginning to think otherwise. So, when I got home that night, I communicated with one of my friends who was into I. T. Industry on how to help her and he said that there was no problem.
